Metacognition exhibition, James Makin Gallery, 2018
Metacognition is a body of work that depicts emotive and atmospheric landscapes. Meticulously painted images, presented realistically and in abstract form, channel the traditions of romanticism with the intent of emotional engagement. The work is a visual exploration of pedagogical theories, related to growth, reflecting the value of education.
Perception forms an underlying narrative; how personality types, mindsets, environmental factors, external influences and prior experiences shape ones interpretation and motivation. The creases and points evidenced in the crumpled images of landscapes represent thinking processes and subsequent outcomes. Ambitions and future directions are referenced in the abstracted backgrounds. A sense of optimism exists; acknowledgment of our capacity to extend.
